We passed on tea bags and here is why.

For us at The Great Mississippi Tea Farm, delivering loose leaf tea versus a tea bag was a conscious choice. A choice that we made in support of quality, health and sustainability.

We have been recognized by Bloomberg News as a "better" company for how to buy Eco-Friendly products in their June 2021 news article and it's all because we passed on the tea bag.

Although a tea bag can be quite convenient, it comes with some downsides.

Here are three reasons why we love loose leaf tea.

Quality - Loose leaf tea is made of whole unbroken leaves. A tea bag often contains broken tea pieces and dust, losing some of the essential oils that bring tea its great flavor.

Health - Tea bags have been found to contain bleaches, glue, and Nano plastics. Loose leaf when used with a quality reusable tea strainer can eliminate all of that from your tea.

Sustainability - A single use bag, either cloth or paper, requires materials and processing. Both lead to unnecessary waste. Even the more Eco friendly paper tea bags can result in the cutting of trees. And the plastic within the tea bags will not fully break down in the compost either.

For us, the decision to reduce as much packaging as possible from our products was the right thing to do. We know we are not perfect, but we are constantly striving to improve how environmentally friendly our business is.
